SLM Driving School

Terms & Conditions

1. Enrolment and payment

Students must complete the required registration information and provide valid identification. Full payment is due before the first lesson unless SLM Driving School approves an installment arrangement for a BDE package. Installment payment options are available for BDE packages only, upon request, and must be discussed and approved before purchase. Students are responsible for providing complete, accurate and current contact, licence, scheduling, road-test and other information required to deliver the purchased service. An approved BDE installment arrangement remains conditional on payments being made when due; SLM Driving School may pause future services while an agreed payment is overdue.

2. Cancellation, rescheduling and no-shows

In-car lessons must be cancelled or rescheduled at least 24 hours in advance. Less than 24 hours’ notice or failure to attend may result in a charge of $50 per scheduled hour or forfeiture of the scheduled lesson. Genuine emergencies may be considered individually at SLM Driving School’s discretion.

Students must bring the valid original physical driver’s licence required to legally participate in every in-car lesson and must wear any corrective lenses required as a condition of their licence. Photographs, screenshots and photocopies of a driver’s licence are not accepted as a substitute for the original licence. Arriving without the required original licence or required corrective lenses will be treated as a no-show and the applicable no-show fee or lesson forfeiture will apply.

3. Cancellations by the driving school

SLM Driving School may cancel, postpone or reschedule a lesson or road-test service because of instructor illness or emergency, unsafe weather or road conditions, vehicle malfunction or mechanical issues, DriveTest delays or cancellations, or other circumstances beyond the school’s reasonable control. When the school cancels an in-car lesson, the student will not be charged a cancellation fee and the affected service will be rescheduled.

4. Attendance, punctuality and conduct

Students must arrive on time, prepared to drive and with all legally required documents and corrective lenses. Late arrival may shorten the lesson. Students must treat instructors, staff and others respectfully and follow all safety directions. Aggressive, abusive, dishonest, harassing, impaired or unsafe behaviour may result in the lesson being ended and may result in termination of enrolment without refund for services already provided or forfeited under these terms.

5. Road-test services

All standalone road-test car rental packages and BDE road-test car-use add-ons include a one-hour refresher lesson on the same day, before the test. Pickup and return transportation are not included. Students must meet the instructor at the DriveTest centre and arrange their own transportation there, unless pickup and return transportation have been arranged with the school for an additional fee.

Winchester Road-Test Travel Package — $300: For students travelling from Ottawa, this package includes pickup and return transportation from approved locations. Students must contact the office before purchasing to confirm their pickup location. Locations outside the included area may be approved for an additional fee, agreed before purchase.

Smiths Falls Road-Test Travel Package — $400: For students travelling from Ottawa, this package includes use of the instructor’s vehicle, a one-hour refresher lesson on the same day before the test, and pickup and return transportation from approved locations. Students must contact the office before purchasing to confirm their pickup location. Locations outside the included area may be approved for an additional fee, agreed before purchase.

BDE Road-Test Car Use — Ottawa Centres Only ($150): Students selecting this add-on must notify the school at least 2–3 weeks before their road test and provide their appointment confirmation.

Road-test appointment fees and other fees charged by DriveTest or the Ministry of Transportation are the student’s responsibility unless expressly stated as included in the purchased package. SLM Driving School is not responsible for a road test that is cancelled, delayed or rescheduled by DriveTest or by the student. If a school vehicle and/or instructor is required for a rescheduled or subsequent road-test appointment, an additional road-test service fee may apply. Students purchasing a road-test package must provide a copy of the actual DriveTest appointment confirmation when requested.

Traffic violations while using a school vehicle: The student/driver is responsible for traffic violations committed by the student while operating a SLM Driving School vehicle, including any resulting fines, penalties or charges legally attributable to the student’s driving. If such an amount is issued to, paid by, or otherwise charged to SLM Driving School or the vehicle owner, the applicable amount may be invoiced to the student/driver accordingly. This provision does not make the student responsible for a violation caused by the school, instructor or vehicle owner.

Road-test vehicle safety and readiness: Purchase or reservation of a road-test package does not override safety requirements. The instructor may assess the student’s driving ability and readiness before the test and may refuse use of the school vehicle if, in the instructor’s professional judgment, the student cannot safely operate the vehicle or is not sufficiently prepared to undertake the road test. Safety takes priority.

6. Refunds, BDE access and administrative fees

Completed lessons and services already provided are non-refundable. Once online BDE access credentials or an enrolment key have been issued, a minimum of $200 of the BDE program fee is non-refundable, regardless of whether the student subsequently accesses or completes the online course.

Where a refund is otherwise approved, a $50 administrative processing fee will be deducted from the refundable balance, in addition to the applicable non-refundable course components, completed lessons, services already provided or committed, certification-related costs, and any other amounts properly owing under these Terms & Conditions. Once in-car training has commenced, any eligible refund applies only to the remaining unused refundable portion of the package. Refund eligibility remains subject to applicable law.

7. Student responsibilities and service timing

Students are responsible for responding promptly to scheduling communications, providing required documents and accurate information, maintaining a valid driver’s licence, and providing reasonable scheduling availability. SLM Driving School is not responsible for delays caused by a student’s failure to meet these responsibilities or by limited student availability.

Requested, proposed or estimated lesson, course and service dates are not guaranteed unless expressly confirmed. Scheduling remains subject to instructor, vehicle and operational availability.

8. Pricing, website errors and changes

SLM Driving School may correct obvious pricing, description or website errors. If an order is affected by a material pricing or listing error, the school may contact the customer to confirm the corrected terms or cancel the affected transaction and refund amounts paid for the cancelled item. Prices and offerings may change prospectively; confirmed purchases remain subject to the terms applicable to the confirmed order unless otherwise agreed or required by law.

9. Circumstances beyond reasonable control

SLM Driving School is not responsible for delay or inability to perform caused by circumstances beyond its reasonable control, including severe weather or unsafe road conditions, emergencies, government or regulatory action, outages, DriveTest disruption, or other comparable events. Affected services will be handled reasonably, including rescheduling where appropriate.

10. Ontario law, severability and waiver

These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of Ontario and the applicable laws of Canada. If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to apply to the extent permitted by law. A failure or delay by SLM Driving School to enforce a provision does not waive the right to enforce it later. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded under applicable consumer-protection or other law.

11. Privacy

Student information is used to deliver training and complete related administration. SLM Driving School will not share personal information without consent except where required by law or necessary to administer the program.

12. BDE completion, scheduling and MTO certification

Standard BDE in-car scheduling: Please allow 2–3 weeks after submitting your completed in-car request and required documents for lessons to begin. The required theory component must be completed first. Students typically complete their 10 hours of in-car instruction over 2–4 months from the start of in-car training, depending on instructor availability and the student’s scheduling flexibility.

BDE Expressway — $150 extra: Students who select the Expressway add-on will complete their 10 hours of BDE in-car instruction within six weeks of their agreed start date. The six-week period begins on that agreed date, not on the purchase date. The theory requirement and initial scheduling period still apply.

BDE One-Year Completion Requirement: In accordance with Ministry of Transportation requirements, all components of the Beginner Driver Education (BDE) program must be completed within one year from the student’s course start date. The required classroom or digital theory component must be completed before beginning the in-vehicle portion of the program.

If the student does not complete all required components within this period, the course will expire, the student will not be eligible for BDE certification, and no refund or credit will be issued for the expired BDE course.

The one-year period is a maximum program-completion deadline and does not guarantee immediate or priority scheduling. Students are responsible for completing the theory component promptly, submitting required information and documents, requesting in-car training in a timely manner, responding to scheduling communications, maintaining reasonable availability, and attending scheduled lessons.

In-car training remains subject to instructor, vehicle and scheduling availability. SLM Driving School will make reasonable efforts to schedule training but cannot guarantee that remaining lessons can be accommodated on short notice when insufficient time remains before the student’s BDE deadline due to delays attributable to the student. Students are strongly encouraged not to wait until the final weeks or months of their eligibility period.

A minimum grade of 70% is required on theory assignments, quizzes and tests and on the final in-car evaluation. Completion of BDE does not guarantee success on a government road test. Ontario schools certify successful completion electronically; students who need proof may request a Driver’s Licence History from ServiceOntario.

13. Policy of behaviour

Students are expected to participate responsibly, arrive prepared, follow safety instructions and act honestly. Substance use, cheating or behaviour that compromises safety is prohibited.

14. Amendments and contact

SLM Driving School may update these terms when operational or regulatory requirements change. Significant changes will be communicated where appropriate. Questions may be sent to slm@slmds.ca or discussed by calling .
